Social Publishing

New York Magazine enables readers to communicate with each other about articles in real-time.

NYMag used StreamServer to build a custom real-time conversation system for their community. Now, each of the articles on their site generate a vibrant conversation using modern UI metaphors including social likes, flags, whirlpools and replies.

After careful consideration, NYMag chose against using an off-the-shelf product becasue it risked cannibalizing their audience and brand to a 3rd party social networking site.

Wiht Echo, the team at NYMag was able to provide a differentiated, wholy owned experience for their users that they assembled out of best-of-breed components. This approach allows them to better control user behavior, own the content and continue to innovate around the needs of their audience and editors over time.

In fact, NYMag developed a number of interesting plugins for their implementation including a timed edit so users could tweak their posts for a short time after submission.
